Quique Setien Says He Will Not Resign As Barcelona Manager

Jul 18, 2020 2:03 PM

Quique Setien said he has not thought about resigning from his Barcelona position despite Lionel Messi's outburst calling the team "inconsistent" and "weak."

Setien added that he was looking forward to proving himself in the Champions League.

"Some things we agree on and other things we don't. [Messi] is right to say that if we play as badly as we have done in some games, we won't win anything.

"But we have also played well in other games and, playing like that, we could win things. We have to be more consistent. If we manage to play as we did against Villarreal, we could win the Champions League," said Setien.

Setien had a meeting with Josep Bartomeu following Barcelona's 4-2 loss to Osasuna on Friday.

"It's normal that there are meetings of this type. We are all restless to improve. We try to look for solutions to change things and that's what the meeting was about."

City Has Two-Year Champions League Ban Reversed

Jul 13, 2020 6:03 PM

The two-year Champions League ban of Manchester City has been lifted by the court of arbitration for sport.

On the central finding by the CFCB’s adjudicatory chamber that City’s Abu Dhabi ownership had disguised its own funding as independent sponsorship by the state’s commercial companies, Cas found: “Most of the alleged breaches were either not established or time-barred.”

The quashing of the two-year ban represents a major victory for City’s hierarchy.

City said in a statement: “The club welcomes the implications of today’s ruling as a validation of the club’s position and the body of evidence that it was able to present. The club wishes to thank the panel members for their diligence and the due process that they administered.”

Turner Opts Out Of Champions League Rights Deal

Jul 2, 2020 12:39 PM

Turner opted out of its Champions League television deal with UEFA.

Univision still holds Spanish-language rights to the UCL through 2024.

UEFA will look to re-sell English-language rights for the next two seasons over the next several weeks.

CBS is the most logical partner since they previously agreed to buy the rights from the fall of 2021 to the spring of 2024.

Turner was paying more than $60 million per year.
